Research and Children

What is a Clinical Study?

  • A Clinical Study is a way to learn how useful (effective) and safe an investigational medicine will be to treat an illness or condition.
  • An "investigational medicine" is one that has not been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
  • A Clinical Study is also known as a "Clinical Trial" or "Clinical Research."
  • Clinical studies include only people who volunteer to take part.

Together we are helping children be healthy

Children are not little adults. Doctors need to study how medicines work in children to find the most effective treatments for many conditions, including EoE. Clinical studies involving children help us to:

  • Find the best dosages that are both safe and effective in children of different ages and body weight.
  • Develop medicines that are easier for children to take such as chewables, liquids or tablets.
  • Understand how children's bodies absorb, process and filter out medicines.
  • Develop treatments for different ailments that improve the health of children in the future.
